Caspersen Beach Wall Art for Rooms That Could Use Some Florida

Caspersen Beach in Venice, Florida, photographed by John Baker

John Baker ran out of paint, which is normally the sort of development that ends a painting session. In this case it sent him outside with a camera. Venice, Florida took it from there.

The result is his photograph of Caspersen Beach, offered as a 16 x 20 print. It is a quiet coastal scene, but it is not anonymous coastal decoration. The place has a name. John was there. Even the reason he picked up the camera has the practical charm of somebody refusing to let an empty paint supply cancel the day.

A Florida beach without the souvenir-shop treatment

Caspersen Beach does not need extra seashells, decorative rope, or a wooden sign reminding everyone that the beach exists. The photograph already brings the shoreline into the room. It can sit in an office, hallway, bedroom, or any place that could use a little more Florida and considerably less sand.

That is also what separates it from the louder pieces in John’s collection. Sunflowers enters a room with its coat already off. Jesus Christ’s High School Selfie is prepared to start a conversation before dinner. Caspersen Beach is willing to let the room breathe.

One coast, two different views

John’s Snowy Egret on Caspersen St Bridge gives buyers another Venice, Florida scene, but the two photographs do different work. The egret gives the eye a clear subject and the bridge fixes the moment to a particular spot. Caspersen Beach opens out toward the shoreline. One is a meeting. The other is a little room to wander.

There is no rule saying coastal art has to announce itself from across the house. Sometimes the better choice is the photograph that keeps the air moving and lets the place speak for itself.
